SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 27-year-old jaywalker was seriously injured Friday when she attempted to cross a Kearny Mesa street mid-block and was struck by a small SUV, police said.

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was struck in the 8600 Spectrum Center Blvd. about 7:40 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.

Another woman driving a Jeep Liberty eastbound on Spectrum Center Boulevard had the sun in her eyes and apparently did not the pedestrian, Battrick said.

The motorist told investigators she was going about 15-20 mph when she felt a bump, then stopped to find the pedestrian on the ground behind her, Battrick said.

Paramedics took the pedestrian to an area hospital with a possible broken pelvis, he said.
