Police seeking suspects in "distraction" burglary series

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Friday sought the public's help in identifying two men and two women suspected of burglarizing at least 10 liquor stores and small markets throughout San Diego County over the past year.

The burglaries occurred between Jan. 28 and Dec. 9, from Carlsbad to Coronado, while the businesses were open, according to Lt. Andra Brown, a San Diego police spokeswoman.

During the burglaries, part of the crew enters a business and strikes up a conversation with the clerk on-duty. While the clerk is distracted, another part of the crew goes into the business' office area and steals cash, Brown said.

"It appears the members of the crew are in communication with each other using hand signals and what appear to be hands-free devices," the spokeswoman said.

Police made public video of the suspects taken during a recent burglary.

Police were looking for a black woman, 25-40 years old, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 10 and 170-220 pounds; a black woman, 25-40 years old, 5 feet 2 to 5 feet 6 and 150-170 pounds; a black man, 35-50 years old, 6 feet 4, with a medium to muscular build and a receding hairline; and a black man, 25-35 years old, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 11 and 170 pounds.

Anyone with information about the robbers was asked to call San Diego police at (619) 516-3000 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
