SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Options abound for New Year's Eve revelry in San Diego Saturday, and transit officials will make it easier to get home after midnight.

For children, Legoland California will host a party beginning at 2 p.m. with music and a Times Square-style countdown to the drop of a 6-foot-long Lego brick.

Celebrations for youths are also scheduled for the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort and Boomers! in Vista. SeaWorld San Diego will host a five-minute fireworks display following its final show of the day, expected about 7:50 p.m. Downtown San Diego should be hopping.

The second annual Firefighter's Ball, benefitting the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation, will be held at the Convention Center this evening, and features a concert by Davy Jones of The Monkees.

Stunt riders Levi LaVallee and Robbie Maddison will attempt a tandem, 300-foot jump -- in a snowmobile and motorcycle, respectively -- across Embarcadero Marina, an 8 p.m. event to be televised on ESPN and espn3.com.

A gala will be held at 8 p.m. aboard the USS Midway Museum to raise funds for the preservation of the aircraft carrier, and the House of Blues will host a block party, starting at 9 p.m.

The Metropolitan Transit System plans to run extra trolleys after midnight. Additional southbound Blue Line trains will depart the Old Town Transit Center at 12:15 a.m. and 12:45 a.m; an extra eastbound Green Line train will leave Old Town at 12:30 a.m.; and the last eastbound Orange Line train will head out at 12:45 p.m. from the 12th and Imperial station.

The North County Transit District will offer free service aboard all buses and trains after 6 p.m. The Sprinter train between Oceanside and Escondido will run after midnight, with the last trip departing at 2:03 a.m.

An additional NCTD Coaster train will depart Oceanside at 8:30 p.m. and return from downtown San Diego at 12:45 a.m.
