Two parolees arrested after high speed police chase

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Two parolees are back behind bars Wednesday morning, after trying to make a desperate getaway in a stolen car.

The pursuit began around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday in National City where a man and woman were holed up in a hotel.

They've been identified as 28-year-old Steven Gardner and 33-year-old Yvonne Casillas. They have both been featured in a News 8 Crimefighters manhunt.

Police had the hotel surrounded when Gardner and Casillas got into a stolen car and drove away.

"We had blocked off the exits, however the female who was the driver in this stolen vehicle broke through our barricade over the embankment leading units on a pursuit through out San Diego," explained Sgt. Julian Villagomez with the National City Police Department.

Police chased them at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

Eventually Casillas lost control of the car and spun out down an embankment in Casa de Oro.

Gardner tried to make a run for it, but both were taken into custody.

They're scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
