Clairemont Subway restaurant closed after car slams into it

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A car struck the front of a North Clairemont sandwich shop Saturday, but no one was injured in the crash, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The Lexus sedan hit the front of the Subway restaurant at 4973 Clairemont Drive about 10:15 a.m. and the vehicle lodged into the structure, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher.

The driver was out of the car when emergency responders arrived and was not injured, the dispatcher said.

The crash was caused when the driver stepped on the gas instead of the brake, a local new source reported.

The restaurant was closed for the remainder of the day, an employee said, and a recorded phone message said it would be closed Sunday and Monday as well.
