SAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS 8) - Five people, including a four-month-old baby, were taken to San Diego hospitals after a three-vehicle collision near Mission Bay Park Sunday.

The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of the West Mission Bay Drive bridge over the San Diego River, San Diego police Officer Jane Jacobsen said.

Traffic was backed up as San Diego police officers closed down the link from West Mission Bay Drive and Ingraham Street to Interstate 8, and detoured cars to Sea World Drive or Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.

The condition of the victims was not immediately known, Jacobsen said, but one of the victims may have gone through one vehicle's front windshield.

Some of the victims were transported to Rady Children's Hospital and others were taken to UCSD Medical Center.

According to paramedics, police are now searching for the driver of a car involved in the crash who fled the ambulance and took off on foot.
