Man crushed between wall and trash bin in La Jolla alley

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man in his 70s or 80s was found dead, pinned between a commercial trash bin and a wall in La Jolla Wednesday.

An employee at Jonathan's Market in the 7600 block of Fay Avenue found the body about 7 a.m., according to San Diego police. His name was not immediately available.

Police looked at video from the store and saw images of a tractor-trailer backing into the alley, leading them to believe the truck hit the garbage bin and pushed it into the man, San Diego police spokeswoman Lt. Andra Brown said.

It was unclear if authorities were able to identify the truck from its license plate. The driver had not been found as of about noon.

Brown said she did not know why the driver pulled in behind the store.

The driver may have been lost or turning around, she said. It was unclear if the video gave investigators the rough time of the accident.
