Rescued horses looking for a place to call home

Posted: Updated:

VALLEY CENTER (CNS) - San Diego County animal services officials said Thursday they are looking for a home for two emaciated and abandoned horses taken in by an animal rescue organization.

The 20-year-old chestnut gelding and 30-year-old paint mare were discovered in the East County community of Boulevard.

Two groups took the horses in because county shelters were full, following a large seizure of livestock last month.

"The department (of animal services) is extremely grateful for organizations such as FalconRidge and the San Diego Horse Coalition and their ability to assist the public and the department," said Dawn Danielson, director of Animal Services.

FalconRidge Equine Rescue received the horses last Saturday and began feeding them, Danielson said.

She said the Horse Coalition is providing veterinary and hoof care.

The caregivers named the gelding "Sparky" and the mare "Buttons."
