Police chase after, rescue robbery suspect

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police officers chased after a robbery suspect at Fashion Valley Saturday and ended up rescuing him after he jumped into the San Diego River.

It all started when undercover police and mall loss prevention officers spotted a man suspected of robbing the Banana Republic store earlier this week.

When police approached him, the suspect took off running out of the mall.

He then ran into the San Diego River where he got stuck in the mud.

Police and good Samaritans jumped into the water to pull the suspect to safety, but he was not breathing. So officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital. That's where police arrested him.
