Police investigate Chula Vista shooting that left 2 dead, 1 injured

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Police investigators in Chula Vista were contacting witnesses and collecting evidence Saturday from the shootings that left two dead and another with a gunshot wound to the face, police said.

The wounded man, 21, was expected to survive his wounds, officers said.

Residents in the 400 block of Oaklawn Avenue reported multiple gunshots were fired about 3 a.m. Friday, according to according to Chula Vista police.

Officers arrived to find a male and a female victim, believed to be in their mid- to late teens or early 20s, in a breezeway at the apartment complex, police said. Both died the scene.

A 21-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his the face, but police expected him to survive, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Chula Vista police Lt. Buddy Magor.

The victims' names were withheld pending next of kin notification.

According to broadcast news reports, the deceased were the 17-year-old brother of the wounded man and a 20-year-old acquaintance of the siblings.

Witnesses reported seeing two unidentified people running out of the area immediately following the shooting, Capt. Gary Ficacci told reporters Friday.

The lethal violence may have been related to a disturbance at the same address late Wednesday, however, the motive for the shootings remained undetermined, said Magor.

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - An early-morning shooting carried out by an unidentified assailant at a South Bay apartment complex left two young people dead Friday and a third wounded.

The gunfire in the 400 block of Oaklawn Avenue in Chula Vista erupted just after 3 a.m., according to Chula Vista police.

Two victims, one male and one female, died at the scene, Capt. Gary Ficacci said. They were believed to be in their mid- to late teens or early 20s.

Medics took a 21-year-old man to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening, the captain said.

The lethal violence may have been related to a disturbance that occurred at the same address late Wednesday, according to Ficacci, who declined to elaborate.

Neighbors reported hearing loud arguments from inside the residence over the past few days.

No suspects in the shooting had been identified by late morning, Lt. Buddy Magor said.

Authorities withheld the identities of the victims pending family notification.
