2 killed in South Bay shooting ID'd

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Authorities released the names Monday of a woman and a teenage boy who were gunned down last week at a South Bay apartment complex.

Christina Selmon, 20, and 17-year-old Hopeton Bennett died early Friday at the scene of the shooting in the 400 block of Oaklawn Avenue in Chula Vista.

A 21-year-old man also was wounded in the 3 a.m. rampage, police Capt. Gary Ficacci said. That victim, whose name has been withheld, was expected to recover from a gunshot to his face.

Relatives told reporters the hospitalized man was the deceased teen's brother.

No suspects in the shooting have been identified, and the motive remains unclear. Witnesses reported seeing two people running out of the area immediately following the eruption of gunfire.

The deadly violence may have been related to a disturbance that occurred at the same address late Wednesday, said Ficacci, who declined to elaborate.

Neighbors told news crews they had heard loud arguments from inside the residence over the prior few days.

Selmon was a Chula Vista resident, and the teenage victim lived in San Diego, according to police.
