NEW YORK (AP) — A person familiar with the case says the son of New York City's police commissioner has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman in October.

Greg Kelly was absent from his job Thursday as co-host of a popular New York City morning television show amid the revelation.

The person was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and talked with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The person said the woman told police Tuesday that she had met Kelly on the street Oct. 8, that they had drinks, and that they went to her office, where she was assaulted.

It is unclear why she did not report it until Tuesday. Police referred the case to the Manhattan district attorney's office because of a potential conflict of interest.

Greg Kelly's attorney says he is cooperating with the investigation and that he believes it will prove his innocence.
