Celebrate and honor the achievements of Black Americans and the impact of African Americans on our nation's history. Black History Month began through the efforts of historian Carter G. Woodson, who believed that publishing scientific history about the black race would produce facts to prove to the world that Africa and its people played a crucial role in the development of civilization. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month.
