SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities released the name Tuesday of a 41-year-old private pilot killed when the spinning propeller of a light plane hit him in the head at Gillespie Field.

Gordon Woodard of Lakeside was mortally injured about 8:30 a.m. Monday while trying to restart the stalled engine of his blue-and-white 1974 Piper

Cherokee by hand-cranking the prop on a taxiway at the El Cajon general-aviation airport, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Medics took Woodard, a soil-testing engineer, to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board and Occupational Safety and Health Administration were investigating the accident.
