The man's guide for surviving Valentine's Day

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Valentine's Day is just four days away, so this is a good time to provide some helpful tips on the do's and don'ts for the big day.

I did my homework, and ladies, let me tell you, men are begging for you to take the voodoo out of Valentine's Day.

"We asked Deanna Lorraine, San Diego's Dating Coach, to critique some of the ideas we heard, like Martin Flores' gameplan.

"I'd like to go to an Aztec game… (my wife) loves that," he said.

"If she likes basketball, then I say definitely go for the basketball game," Deanna said.

It's better than Bruce Betz's gamble. He's trying to wing it.

"You know, I'm spontaneous… I don't have a plan," he said.

"Restaurants are getting booked, hotels are getting booked. The clock is ticking buddy, you've got to make a plan," Deanna said.

But not just any plan, like Bill Kelly, who's been married for nine years.

"Maybe some flowers and chocolate. That's kind of on my mind right now," he said.

"Just flowers and chocolate? Yes, it's a little too predictable," Deanna said.

She says what about a horse and buggy ride, or a romantic getaway? Something with a surprise.

"It brings out the little girl in them," she said.

As for my secret plan, hopefully it will thrill my wife.

"I think the idea is fantastic. I think she is going to love it and especially because you aren't that fond of the idea, it's going to be that much more meaningful to her, and she's going to feel like it's so much more romantic," Deanna said.

Deanna Lorraine also says don't be afraid to mix things up. Delivering flowers to your wife's work the day before Valentine's Day could score some points.
