LA MESA (CNS) - Police today searched for a man who robbed a 71-year-old woman of her purse in the parking lot of the Grossmont Center mall.
The incident occurred at 7:54 p.m. Saturday while the victim and her husband walked through the parking lot near BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, near Grossmont Center Drive at Fletcher Parkway in La Mesa, Police Chief Ed Aceves said.
A man approached the woman from behind and grabbed the purse from her shoulder before running east toward Grossmont Hospital, Aceves said.
The victim complained of minor back pain but declined medical attention. La Mesa police officers searched the surrounding area with the help of a San Diego Sheriff's Department helicopter and police dog but were unable to find the suspect, he said.
He was described as white, in his mid 30s, about 5 feet-6 inches, 160 pounds, with dirty blonde hair, wearing a dark colored jacket, red t-shirt, and dark baggy pants.
