Nonstop flights from San Diego to Japan to start in December

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Japan Airlines will operate the first-ever nonstop flight between San Diego and Japan beginning in December, the airline and San Diego County Regional Airport Authority announced Wednesday.

The flight will have a code-sharing arrangement with American Airlines but be operated by Japan Airlines with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

"Now residents of San Diego and the surrounding communities will have the fastest route to Tokyo, Narita, where they can also connect easily to our network of flights to major business centers and tourist destinations in Asia," said Yoshihiko Kozu, vice president and regional manager of the airline's southwestern region.

The flight scheduled will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday until March, when it becomes daily.

It will depart Lindbergh Field at noon and arrive at Narita International Airport at 4:55 p.m. local time the next day -- because it crosses the International Date Line. The return flight leaves Japan at 5:30 p.m. and gets to San Diego at 10:30 a.m.
