EL CAJON (CNS) - A portable heater was the likely cause of a house fire in El Cajon, and two people were displaced, firefighters said Sunday.
The blaze began about 7:50 a.m. Saturday at a single story home on Millar Avenue near El Cajon Boulevard, Heartland Fire & Rescue Department spokesperson Sonny Saghera said.
Crews arrived within five minutes of the initial call to discover heavy fire and smoke coming from the front windows of the single family residence, Saghera said.
Firefighters stretched hose lines to the interior of the house and fought the fire while a truck crew cut a hole in the roof to ventilate the house. The coordinated attack kept the blaze from spreading to other structures, Saghera said.
The fire was believed to be caused by a portable space heater in a bedroom. Damage to the structure and contents of the home was estimated at $80,000.
No one was in the house during the fire, and there were no injuries to firefighters, Saghera said. News of the fire was not reported until today by
the agency.
