SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – A dog found shot on the side of an East County road is listed in critical condition Tuesday at the VCA Emergency Animal Hospital in Mission Valley.
The retriever mix, now named "Chance," was discovered on Viejas Grade Road around 7:30 a.m. Monday with a gunshot wound. The bullet had pierced the dog's body.
Veterinarians say Chance's "prognosis for survival is extremely guarded." And due to damage to the lungs, Chance is being kept in an oxygen-rich kennel.
Because of the dog's condition, Chance is not available for adoption yet, however, you can contribute to County's Department of Animal Services Spirit Fund, which is covering Chance's medical expenses.
The shooting suspect could face felony charges and jail time.
