VISTA (CNS) - A woman who stole about 2,000 books and DVDs from libraries in Carlsbad, Oceanside and San Diego so she could re-sell them pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony burglary.
Maria Nater, 45, will be placed on probation at a sentencing hearing April 25, said Deputy District Attorney Marnie McGee.
Last year, personnel at a library in Carlsbad noticed a significant book loss between March and July and an investigation was launched.
A search of Nater's home in Vista turned up thousands of library books on cooking, crafts and animals -- some wrapped and ready to be shipped -- estimated to be worth $5,400, authorities said.
Some of the bar codes on the library books had been ripped off, and Nater admitted that she had been selling books on Amazon.com, prosecutors said.
Nater was arrested last September when she stopped at a library to pick up more books, according to authorities.
