SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A hit-and-run driver struck a fire hydrant in Hillcrest early Friday morning, unleashing a geyser that flooded nearby Scripps Mercy Hospital.
The noninjury accident near Fourth Avenue and Lewis Street was reported around 4:30 a.m., according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher.
The geyser sent water shooting up about three stories high near the hospital. The water flooded the halls of the lab and office areas, however it does not appear that any patients were impacted.
It took crews about an hour-and-a-half to shut off the water.
