Convicted sex offender sentenced to 25 years for sharing child porn

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A convicted sex offender from Spring Valley, whose computer contained more than 40,000 images of child pornography available on a file-sharing program, was sentenced Monday to 25 years in federal prison.

David Michael McElmurry, 36, was convicted last August of distribution and possession of child pornography.

McElmurry, who pleaded guilty to similar crimes in 2007, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge John Houston.

According to evidence presented at McElmurry's trial last year, he had a computer set up at his mother's house. He was not allowed to have a computer because he is a convicted sex offender.

The pornographic images he collected and made available for distribution ranged from infants to prepubescent males and females, prosecutors said.

An FBI agent posing as someone interested in the lewd material was able to connect to McElmurry's file-sharing account and download and browse the images on the computer, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

At his sentencing Monday, the defendant denied knowing the images were on his computer, but admitted he has a sexual attraction to young males, prosecutors said.
