WOODLAND HILLS (CNS) - A 19-year-old man suspected of reckless driving was shot and killed by police after he apparently threatened officers at the end of a chase on the 101 Freeway in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles County.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Station stopped the suspect's car around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Plummer Street and Shirley Avenue in Northridge, said Officer Karen Rayner of LAPD Media Relations.
The suspect sped away from the stop and drove recklessly, running red lights, before getting onto the southbound Ventura Freeway, Rayner said.
The chase ended on the freeway at Canoga Avenue with the suspect attempting to flee his car on foot, Rayner said.
The suspect pointed what appeared to be a gun at officers. Officers opened fire and shot the suspect, said Rayner.
All northbound lanes of the Ventura Freeway were closed at DeSoto Avenue and all southbound lanes were closed at Canoga Avenue as police investigated, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.
