Winning Mega Millions ticket sold in San Diego

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A ticket with five numbers for Saturday night's multi-state Mega Millions lottery, but missing the Mega number, was sold at Randy's Mini Market in San Diego and is worth $520,054, a California Lottery official announced.

Five other tickets -- one each sold in Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan and New York -- also had five numbers, but didn't have the Mega number and are each worth $250,000.

California law requires major payoffs of lottery games to be paid on a pari-mutuel basis.

There were no tickets sold with all six numbers and the estimated jackpot for Tuesday's drawing will grow to $53 million.

The numbers drawn tonight were 9, 14, 17, 36, 42 and the Mega number was 33. The estimated jackpot was $42 million.

The drawing was the fourth since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to the Mega Millions website. The overall chance of winning a prize is 1 in 40.

The Mega Millions game is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
