SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 37-year-old man sustained a serious injury to his arm Saturday when his car struck a sign pole on a city street, San Diego police said.

The driver of a 2002 BMW sedan was headed west on Imperial Avenue over Interstate 805 about 6:25 a.m., according to San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.

As he drove over the freeway, the vehicle struck a left turn sign pole, Battrick said.

The driver was stuck inside the car and was rescued by fire personnel, Battrick said. He sustained a serious injury to his left forearm.

Battrick said alcohol was possibly involved in the crash. The pole had only minor damage, he said.
