San Diego County gasoline falls again

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County decreased Friday for the 22nd time in 23 days, falling six-tenths of a cent to $4.22 -- its lowest amount since Feb.

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County decreased Friday for the 22nd time in 23 days, falling six-tenths of a cent to $4.22 -- its lowest amount since Feb. 23.

The average price is 3.5 cents less than one week ago and 14.3 cents lower than one month ago, but 1.5 cents more than a year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price has decreased for 19 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent on Tuesday, then resumed dropping the following day. It has fallen 12.2 cents over the past 23 days, including six-tenths of a cent on Thursday.

"While prices have dropped to almost the same level as this time last year, those April 2011 prices were nearly the highest prices that drivers paid during all of 2011," said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"Motorists need to continue actively shopping around for gas prices and make sure they are maximizing their fuel economy by avoiding speeding and regularly checking their tires for proper inflation," he said.
