Man killed by train in Leucadia identified

ENCINITAS (CNS) - Authorities Saturday released the name of the 51-year-old Encinitas man who had been drinking at a friend's house just before he was fatally struck by an Amtrak train.

Douglas Gregory Burns left a friend's trailer after consuming alcohol Friday night, about an hour before he was struck by a southbound Amtrak train. The fatality was at about 10:15 p.m. near 1542 North Coast Highway 101, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

Sheriff's deputies and emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced him dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m., the Medical Examiner's Office reported.
