LA PRESA (CNS) - Authorities sought the public's help Tuesday in tracking down a hit-and-run motorist who seriously injured a cyclist in the La Presa neighborhood of East County.
Robert Diaz, 52, of Spring Valley was riding his mountain bike east on San Francisco Street around 8:20 p.m. April 19 when he was struck as he crossed Maria Avenue. He failed to stop for a stop sign and rode directly into the path of an oncoming pickup traveling northbound on Maria Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Pennings.
The motorist applied his brakes but was unable to avoid striking Diaz, Pennings said, leaving the cyclist with major injuries, including a broken right leg, punctured lung, broken ribs and a laceration to his head.
The vehicle, believed to be a dark green Dodge Ram pickup, sustained moderate front-end damage, Pennings said.
Anyone with information about the case was urged to call the El Cajon-area CHP office at (619) 401-2000.
