Marine found dead at Camp Pendleton ID'd

CAMP PENDLETON (CNS) - The name of a 23-year-old Marine who died at Camp Pendleton under undisclosed circumstances was released Tuesday by military officials.

Lance Cpl. Michael J. Ronner of Sudbury, Mass., was found dead about 9:15 a.m. Monday, according to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. The cause of Ronner's death will be determined by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, according to Capt. Barry Edwards.

Marine Corps officials declined to disclose any other details about the death, including where on the base it occurred and whether it appeared suspicious in any way.

Ronner, who enlisted in January 2010, was a data systems technician with the 9th Communication Battalion, I MEF Headquarters Group. His military awards include a National Defense Service Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
