It's a dream come true for some: getting paid to shop. But you don't have to quit your day job to make this dream a reality. There are companies out there that will pay you shop in your free time.
But there's a sneaky little catch: you just need to sign up to be a mystery shopper.
Mystery shoppers are hired to evaluate their shopping experiences and give retailers and salespeople grades that the company then uses to improve its customer service.
It may include how long it takes to be greeted, speed of service, and cleanliness.
Who's hiring? Hotels and resorts, retail and grocery stores, and movie theaters, among others.
Visit Volition.com to browse through mystery shopping companies and access the site's mystery shopping bulletin board.
But beware of scams. Avoid any company that requires you to pay a fee or asks for money for anything. And avoid advertisements for shoppers in newspapers' help-wanted ads or unsolicited emails.
