VISTA, Calif. (AP) - A freelance videographer has been convicted of obstructing a San Diego County sheriff's deputy during a bomb scare.
The North County Times says jurors convicted James Playford of Ramona on Thursday. He was sentenced to time served and will pay about $300 in attorney's fees. Playford says he'll appeal.
He was accused of struggling last December when a detective detained him outside the Vista office of Congressman Darrell Issa.
The detective says he thought Playford was using a cell phone to detonate a bottle bomb. Playford says he was calling a news agency.
The bottle turned out to contain urine.
Playford's confrontational style has led to many run-ins with police. San Diego police pulled his press credentials and he pleaded no contest this year to disturbing the peace.
