Deals on wheels: It's a Luv Thing

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A classic VW bug seems right at home rolling up the 101. Its driver, Kamie Archinal, is no stranger to this stretch of old Leucadia. She pulls up to the curb in front of Pannikin, unloads Dolly and it's business as usual at It's a Luv Thing.

"Now with the ongoing trend of the gourmet food trucks and what's going on with boutiques and how hard it is to have a small business of your own, this just seemed like the way to do it," Kamie said.

This former Nordstrom's buyer, retailer, wholesaler and perpetual trendsetter is now offering San Diego's first mobile boutique.

"This way they can just call me or I can come to them. They can find me at little place around town. I don't have any overhead, I don't have the store hours. It's just makes it a lot more flexible, a lot more fun and it's unique," Kamie said.

Instead of shop 'til you drop, it's flop while you shop.

"One of the things I've always focused on at It's a Luv Thing is trying to find the best high-end trends and also offer similar trends at affordable prices," Kamie said.

Weekly trips to L.A. keep Kamie on top of the trends.

"This enables me to have a really small inventory and turn it around really quick, which is what I really like. I don't want to look at things for a week and neither does anybody else," she said.

The It's a Luv Thing boutique bus has sold at everything from home parties to farmers markets.

"I think it's just getting people to learn how to shop differently. Like any new trend, it takes a while to get your head around it," Kamie said.

At the start of a trend the road has no end, when you have Luv and will travel.
