She turns seven-years-old in about two weeks and the best birthday gift Jazmin could receive is a forever family. Jazmin and her little brother Cesar deserve to have their next move be their last. Meet these resilient kids, who were all smiles at the News 8 playdate.
Jazmin and Cesar have strong imaginations and if there was one dream that could become a reality, it would be to find a forever family.
Cesar is already five and a half and needs a family to enroll him into a preschool and prepare him for kindergarten.
Meantime, Jazmin is in the first grade and is starting to blossom in her school environment.
"Jazmin has made a lot of improvements in the first grade. She started school late, so it was a big adjustment getting her in the academic requirements in first grade," said Protective Services Worker Peter Ellew. "And she struggled a lot at first, but she's made a lot of progress as far as she gets her homework done almost every night, is making friends at school doing a lot better socially and academically."
Though Jazmin and Cesar have no parents to rely on, they do have each other. And, one of the things Jazmin loves best about her brother is she likes to play with him and he likes to play with her.
And Cesar told me that he's strong enough to pick up his sister. In fact, they pick each other up in more ways than one.
"They really seem to watch out for each other and like playing with each other and doing the same activities," Ellew explained.
Jazmin and Cesar also like to eat – their favorite foods are peanut butter, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and animals cookies.
Despite having been moved in and out of about four different foster homes, through no fault of their own, Jazmin and Cesar are happy, healthy kids.
But what Jazmin and Cesar are missing is a forever family to offer them the stability and support they need to thrive.
"I think that they'd do great," Ellew continued. "The pattern is they start to do well and then they have to move, and I think if we could get them one last move, it might be rough in the beginning, but I really think that these kids have a lot of promise, and they're really great kids."
