Spring Valley 7-Eleven clerk punched during store robbery

SPRING VALLEY (CNS) - A 7-Eleven clerk in Spring Valley was punched in the face early Wednesday while being robbed by two masked men, who apparently held up more than one convenience store Wednesday morning and possibly another last week, authorities said.

Deputies were called to 7-Eleven at 103 Worthington St. about 3:50 a.m., according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Luis Chavez. One of two masked robbers used his fist to punch the clerk before the thieves ran off with cash and several lottery tickets, he said in a statement.

One of the thieves was armed with a handgun and the other, a knife, he said. Medics treated the clerk at the scene for a cut lip.

While investigating the robbery, deputies learned from San Diego police officers that the incident might be related to one that occurred in their jurisdiction, Chavez said, noting that both robberies were committed by suspects of a similar description.

The robbery in the city of San Diego occurred maybe a week ago, said sheriff's Lt. J.T. Faulkner.

Around 4:30 Wednesday morning, National City police received a call about an armed robbery of the 7-Eleven at 3100 E. Plaza Blvd., Chavez said, noting two masked men in dark clothing fled from the scene in an older model Dodge Neon.
