SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities released the name of a 73-year-old driver Thursday who was killed when he crashed a convertible PT Cruiser into a ravine alongside Interstate 5 in Encinitas.

Kenneth Rogers of Laguna Beach lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons after exiting the southbound side of the freeway at Birmingham Drive shortly before noon Tuesday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.

The vehicle crossed the city street, hit a guardrail and tumbled about 150 feet down an embankment, rolling side-over-side at least once before coming to rest against a fence.

Witnesses called 911, and medics took Rogers to Scripps Memorial La Jolla Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of blunt-force injuries on arrival.
