SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It was a big celebration near Scripps Pier for the 6th annual Survivor Beach Event Sunday.

Participants laid down surfboards on the sand in support of cancer survivors.

The boards went down nose to tip heading from the pier towards La Jolla Shores. Last year's record was more than doubled this year with 344 boards, covering over 25-hundred feet.

"We do have a lot of cancer patients that are also surfers that are laying down their boards today. We also have care givers and local supporters from the community," spokesperson, Cory Reynolds said.

The event is a prelude to a huge event raising money for the Moore's UCSD Cancer Center, the Luau and Longboard Invitational.
