LA JOLLA (CNS) - Students graduating from UC San Diego Saturday will hear from three alumni who have made names for themselves in the entertainment industry.

The festivities begin at 8 a.m. when James Avery, best known as "Uncle Phil" on the television situation comedy "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," will speak to around 1,400 graduates of Thurgood Marshall College. Avery returns to the campus often and has created a scholarship for performing and visual arts students.

Robert Bowman, the creator of the television series "My Name is Earl," will speak to about 1,600 graduate students who will receive advanced degrees. Bowman also has credits on "Family Guy" and "Yes, Dear," and is working to develop an American version of the British comedy "White Van Man."

The third speaker is Ira Rubinstein, now executive vice president of digital marketing for Twentieth Century Fox, who will address 735 students at Revelle College. Rubinstein, president of the UCSD Alumni Association Board of Directors, has also held positions with Marvel Entertainment and Sony Pictures Digital.

Students at John Muir College will also graduate Saturday.

More ceremonies are scheduled for Sunday.
