Solstice celebration

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's officially summertime in San Diego, and that means school's out, people are heading back to the beach and summer camp's starting up. It's an exciting time of year.

Our own local beach boy Larry Himmel was out celebrating the summer solstice.

If everybody had a notion

Across the county today

Then everybody be chillin'

The summer solstice way.

The longest day of the summer

The latest sunset stay

Hurray for the season

It's summer solstice day.

They're frying dough at Del Mar

And selling knives again.

Bringing all your cash

And hit the ATM.

All over the beaches

The marine layer fades

Everybody's still surfin'

It's summer solstice day.

We'll all be plannin' a route

We're gonna take real soon

Waiting for warm water

That happen's after June.

Still here in San Diego

Where we've all come to stay

Tell the boss your ditchin'

It's summer solstice day.

At Moonlight and Swami's

Or on Poseidon's deck.

Hanging out in La Jolla

Along your coastal trek.

Mission Beach is wacky

What else can you say?

Ocean Beach is tie-dyed

It's summer solstice day.

They're hanging out in PB

Around the Crytal Pier.

Lots of blades and bathers

At this time of year.

They'll all be here for the summer

No better place to stay

San Diego is rockin'

It's summer solstice day.

Yeah, San Diego is rockin'

It's summer solstice day.

Hundreds of years before Spanish settlers discovered that Poway would be a heck of a place for a rodeo, the Diegueno Indians, direct descendants of the Kumeyaay, roamed the 55 miles of trails that surround this simmering centerpiece.
