SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities released the name Friday of a 42-year-old man killed in a late-night freeway crash in Mission Valley.

Ramon Vega of San Diego was eastbound on Interstate 8 shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the late-model Honda CR-V he was driving drifted onto the right-hand shoulder near Hotel Circle and struck the back of a disabled Chrysler PT Cruiser, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office and California Highway Patrol.

The Honda SUV overturned and rolled side-to-side several times. Vega, who apparently lived in a back room at an Old Town business, died of head trauma at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the Chrysler had pulled over to use an emergency callbox, the CHP reported. At the time of the crash, the emergency flashers on her vehicle were activated, authorities said.
