Not guilty plea from Chula Vista man accused of molesting young relative

A Chula Vista elementary school tutor and volunteer youth football coach accused of repeatedly molesting a young relative is scheduled to be arraigned at the South Bay Courthouse Monday.

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Chula Vista elementary school tutor and volunteer youth football coach accused of repeatedly molesting a young relative pleaded not guilty Monday to five felony charges of sexual abuse against a minor.

Carlos Ojeda, 20, was ordered held on $800,000 bail and told to have no contact with the alleged victim. He faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan.

Ojeda is suspected of sexually assaulting the child several times, starting last July, according to Chula Vista police Capt. Gary Ficacci, who declined to disclose the alleged victim's gender or relationship to the suspect. He would only say the child is under 10.

No new details were presented in court during Ojeda's arraignment before South Bay Superior Court Judge Katherine Bacal.

Ojeda tutors on a contract basis at Lauderbach Elementary School. The alleged victim is not a student at the school or a member of the team Ojeda coaches, police said.

Ojeda surrendered to detectives last Thursday.

A readiness conference was set July 3 and a preliminary hearing for July 5.
