Man Jet Skis 265 miles to raise diabetes awareness

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A touching commitment from a son to his late father, Jet Skiing from Santa Barbara to San Diego, all for a good cause.

Jon Grey left Santa Barbara around 5 a.m. Saturday, making several stops along the 265-mile-long journey down the Pacific before finishing at Shelter Island. Grey is hoping to raise awareness for diabetes in honor of his father, prominent endocrinologist Dr. Neil Grey, who dedicated his life to patient diabetes care before his death in 2007.

"It's not how much we know, or how much the patients know, it's what we do with what we know. So my father never took more than 10 days to take any patient and get their blood sugars in control," Jon Grey said.

All proceeds from Saturday's ride go to the American Diabetes Association.
