The injured parrot rescued from the wreckSAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS8) - Neighbors describe a horrific crash in Pacific Beach as sounding like an explosion, just moments before they ran into the street to find the twisted wreckage and two people trapped inside.
A 63-year-old suspected drunken driver and his 41-year-old female passenger were critically injured when the man drove a Ford F150 pickup into a wall in Crown Point early Friday, police said.
The northbound Ford F-150 crashed off the roadway in the 3300 block of Ingraham Street shortly before 5 a.m., according to San Diego police.
The accident left the 63-year-old driver, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, with arm and pelvic injuries, and his 41-year-old passenger with head and leg trauma, SDPD Officer Frank Cali. Medics took them both to a hospital.
A stretch of the street was closed for about five hours to allow for investigation and cleanup.
A green and red parrot was rescued from the wreckage by a good samaritan. The bird was injured and covered in gasoline from the wreck. Family members of the crash victims who would like to claim the bird can email yourstories@kfmb.com.
