SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Marine recruit died at a hospital following strength testing required prior to training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, a major said Saturday.
The recruit became unresponsive Friday morning after completing an initial strength test, which consists of pull-ups, crunches and a 1.5-mile run, according to Maj. Michael Armistead.
The recruit was rushed to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:54 a.m. Friday, Armistead said.
The recruit's name and age were not released pending family notification, Armistead said.
