SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A driver is in the hospital after losing control of his car and flying off the freeway in City Heights early Saturday morning.
It happened just before 6:00 a.m. on the southbound I-15 ramp to the southbound I-805. The California Highway Patrol says the driver may have been speeding when his car lost control, rolled over several times and flew off the highway.
"Continued, from the speed of his vehicle, continued to hit a call box and as you can see over here, wrapped around a tree. And at that time we think he was ejected and landed in the ditch," said Sgt. Connie Lloyd with the CHP.
Officers say it appears the victim was ejected 100 feet through the air. Firefighters had to rescue him from the bottom of the ditch, before he was rushed to the hospital.
There is no word yet if alcohol played a role in the crash.
