SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Senior citizens are no strangers to Rancho Bernardo. Take 13-year-old Moorea for example.
"She's now a therapy pet," her owner said.
She may need therapy herself after being dressed up.
"She likes to be the center of attention," her owner said.
The look on Benjamin Franklin's face says it all.
"He's very thrilled to be here today," his owner said. "He came as George Washington last year… took first."
Ben was accompanied by his lifemate Betsy Ross, who was authentically coiffed in curls.
The showstopper at this year's Patriotic Pet Contest was Bailey, a seven-year-old invader from Poway.
"He actually fits into Build-a-Bear clothes. I just love it, it's perfect for him," his owner said.
When you think about it, our pets embody the American spirit of patriotism. They are fiercely loyal, unwavering in dedication and willing to make enormous sacrifices on our behalf. They will always remain by our side and protect us, even after we've neutered them or dressed them up in public. So stand tall -- or sit or roll over. We thank you for your service.
