CARLSBAD (CNS) - The 31st
annual Carlsbad Triathlon, featuring a 1,000-meter open-ocean swim, a 25-mile
bicycle ride and a 5K run, is scheduled for Sunday morning.
About 1,000 participants are
scheduled to race, with the start set for 8 a.m. at Tamarack State Beach off
triathlon, which attracts world-class athletes looking to stay sharp, is
considered a good one for beginners, because the course is relatively flat.
Last year's winner, Chris
Kemp of Australia, finished in about one hour and 10 minutes. The top woman,
Heather Jackson of Carlsbad, came in five minutes later. She plans to defend
