Non-injury fire near Chula Vista

Posted: Updated:

DULZURA (CNS) - A fire of unknown origin scorched two grassy acres Thursday in an undeveloped area east of Chula Vista.

The non-injury blaze erupted near the intersection of Otay Lakes Road and State Route 94 shortly before 12:30 p.m., Cal Fire Capt. Mike Mohler said.

It took about 100 ground and airborne personnel roughly a half-hour to contain the southeast-moving flames, which posed no structural threats. The crews were equipped with nine engines, three water trucks, two bulldozers, two air tankers and two helicopters, Mohler said.

The cause of the blaze near Dulzura was not immediately clear, though lightning-storm activity forecast for the East County this afternoon apparently was not to blame, the captain said.
