Stolen ATM found open, cash missing

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men used a stolen tow truck to yank an automated teller machine from its foundation in Clairemont early Wednesday, then drove about two miles away, where they cut the ATM open and fled with its cash, police said.

The ATM belongs to Chase Bank and was stolen from 5825 Balboa Ave. about 3:30 a.m., San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick said.

About two hours later, the stolen tow truck was found still running at Tecolote Canyon Golf Course at 2755 Snead Ave., according to the sergeant.

The ATM was found on the ground nearby. It was cut open and the cash missing, Battrick said.
