Pot clinic measure approved for Del Mar ballot

Posted: Updated:

DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Voters will decide whether to legalize medical marijuana clinics in the San Diego County town of Del Mar, despite opposition from the city attorney.

The North County Times says the City Council voted Wednesday to place the measure on the November ballot even though a city attorney's report said the initiative is riddled with flaws and misrepresentations.

The San Diego-based group Citizens for Patient Rights helped gather enough signatures to place the measure on the ballot. Identical proposals have been put forth in Solana Beach, Encinitas, Lemon Grove and La Mesa.

The measures would ban pot dispensaries within 600 feet of schools or playgrounds and set a 2.5-percent city tax on sales.
