SAN DIEG (CBS 8) - Passengers on the ocean odyssey were thrilled on Sunday when they came across the killer whale in the waters about five miles offshore.

They say the whale appeared to be a young male. He was also seen in the area just a few weeks ago.

Orcas have been reported offshore a few times in recent years, but they are rare in our local waters.

Almost three-thousand killer whales are thought to live in the Northeastern Pacific, from California to the Bering Sea.
